Casa Hexagon - Chaitén, Chile (I/05 - V/08)
See you again!
Casa Hexagon offered it's services first in January 2005. The uniquely designed wood house built around a tree trunk with a beautiful interior closed it's doors in May 2008.
On Friday, May 2, 2008, Chaitén Volcano - 10km distance from Casa Hexagon - erupted for the first time since about 7400 BC. Large parts of Chaitén town became victim of lahars flooding and as a result ceased to exist. Many people lost their homes and existence.
I personally look back at 3 years of work and joy at Casa Hexagon. With the hostel one of my lifetime dreams came through and I spent some of my happiest summers there. It's loss is a heavy stroke to me, but I won't give up. Thank you for all the good time we had and all your motivating feedback! Casa Hexagon will be back, at a different time and a different location.
